Water-coloring TWO ways with video tutorial!

In August our Flowerbug's Team had our usual card swap – this time we featured either Sale-a-Bration or Holiday catalog products.  I chose to use both!

I created this card for a few reasons; I wanted to use the Aspen dies (LOVE THEM) and also wanted to create a water-colored background.   What do you think?

I chose to use Orchid Oasis as my card base and added Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry and a bit of Tahitian Tide in the water-color wash at the bottom.

Be sure to watch the video below to see how it's done.  It's super simple and hard to mess up!  Honest!

Tips for a successful water color wash:

  • Wet the water before adding ink.  This is super important!  The ink will spread so much easier and without lines if the paper is wet.
  • I used our Water Painters – but a paintbrush also works.
  • Use a heavy paper such as watercolor paper, Thick White or Vanilla or Shimmer paper. Here I used our Silver & Gold DSP from the Sale-a-Bration catalog.  It worked but thicker paper is easier and has less chance of the paper fibers lifting.
  • Let the paper dry between layers if you want a definite line between colors – like this sunset & water combo.

Other details:

  • I stamped the bird in Orchid Oasis and colored him in with our watercolor pencils and a blender pen.
  • The greeting is from the Perched in a Tree stamp set – it's in a bundle with the Aspen dies I used here.
  • The greeting die-cut is from the All That dies.

The Aspen dies are available in three ways – in the Bundle at a 10% discount, separately from the Perched in a Tree stamp set or free during August & our Sale-a-Bration promotion.

*Best buy: purchase the Perched in a Tree bundle in August and choose a $50 Sale-a-Bration choice for free!  See them all here.

  • Fantastic fun fold cards made with the Round We Go bundle!

Today I'm sharing the second half of our Team's Artist of the Month projects. Paula did an amazing job showcasing the Round We Go bundle seen here.

Most of her cards featured today are fun folds. This first card is among my favorites because of the colors; I love the freshness of the blues and yellows together.

She used Blueberry Bushel, Azure Afternoon, Lemon Lolly & Daffodil Delight as well as the Country Lace designer paper seen here.  I love how she die-cut the extra detailed circle around the greeting.

This card is a gift card too; here's the inside view:

    Measurements:

    • Card base 5 1/2" X 4 1/4"
    • White card fold 4" X 8" scored at 4"
    • DSP 3 3/4" square and two 1" X 4" strips

Next is a deceiving card front that opens up to something quite unique.

I love how she made the rosette look like a round bow on a gift. Her colors include Berry Burst, Daffodil Delight, Fresh Freesia and Petunia Pop. Here's the inside view of this card:

The pop up flap is an extra piece added under the lower White piece. It's 5" square; scored at 3/4", 1 1/2" and 2 5/8". then cut at an angle to the last score line. Each White layer is 5" X 4".

See this unique bundle here.  It's discounted through Sunday.

This last card is also somewhat deceptive.  It makes the most of the pretty Full of Life designer paper on the front as well as a stamped rosette with Pretty in Pink ribbon.

It opens up to reveal a simple opening.

    Measurements:

    • Card base 9 1/4" X 4 1/4" score at 5 1/2"
    • DSP 3 1/2" X 4" and 1 1/2" X 4"
    • White inside 3 1/2" X 4"

Aren't her projects wonderful?  She really showcased this neat bundle beautifully.

  • Fabulous projects with the Round We Go Bundle and it’s on sale through Sunday!

Today I'm sharing the first set of projects by our Artist of the Month for June.  Paula chose the Round We Go bundle to create with and she did an incredible job!

This bundle is on sale through June – an extra 20% off.  It was $45 and is now just $40 for all of the above. See it here.

This first card features multiple dies and a stamped background too.  The designer papers used for the rosettes include  Full of Life and the In Color 6" X 6" prints.

Her colors include Boho Blue & Peach Pie with White.

Next is a fun patriotic card she made for her nephew who is in the military. It sure reminds me of decorative bunting!

Her colors are Red, White & Navy with Crumb Cake.  She stamped the circles with one of the stamps in the set.  Love her creativity!

Next up is a fun card with two 'lollipops' made with the dies in the bundle.

Her colors include Shy Shamrock, Vanilla and Crumb Cake.  She layered at least 3-4 of the Crumb Cake 'feel better soon' dies together for a fantastic raised look.

Next is this amazing box. I haven't seen anyone do a half rosette to decorate a box top before!  It's genius!

Her colors are Blueberry Bushel and Lemon Lime Twist. I don't have measurements for the box but it's about 2 3/4" square and over 2" tall.

Here's another box she made where she stamped the entire box with many of the image in the set.

Her box is made from Lemon Lolly card stock and she added a layered stamped greeting made from one of the dies in the set.  It's almost like a long milk carton box that closes at the top with twine.  Neat!

Aren't her projects amazing?  She really showcased this neat bundle.  Stop back tomorrow for the rest of her projects!
