Shaving Cream & Watercolor techniques with tips for success

This week I'm sharing the swap cards my Flowerbug's Team made for our March card swap. The theme was to use a technique featuring ink refills.

Each one is fabulous!

This first card was created by Paula who used the shaving cream technique.  It looks a little bit like tie dye!

Tips on the Shaving Cream technique.  It's fun but a bit messy.

  1. Fill a container with about an inch of shaving cream. Your container should be large enough to fit the card stock you're coloring. *tip; cheap shaving cream works just fine!
  2. Smooth out the cream.  Add drops of your ink colors onto the cream. Take a knife and swirl the ink into the cream. Don't do this too much or you'll make 'muddy' colors.
  3. Lay your card stock onto the swirled cream and press lightly. Use gloves if you don't want inky fingers.
  4. Remover your card stock and wipe off the excess cream. Set aside to dry.
  5. You can use regular card stock or glossy if you have it.

She used Orchid Oasis, Parakeet Party & Tahitian Tide inks and regular Basic White card stock.

She even die-cut a few corner elements for the inside of her card. These dies are from the Fabulous Frames dies seen here

Next is a pretty card made by Ginny using the Best Day stamp set seen here.  She cased a card from the Jan-June catalog.  Check out the sample on page 67.  This is a great reminder that there are wonderful ideas in our catalogs!

She stamped the image on watercolor paper and colored it using our Water painters.  I believe her colors include Calypso Coral, Pool Party & Daffodil Delight.

Here are a few helpful tips for successful water-coloring.

  • Wet your paper before you add color. Watercolor paper is THE BEST for smooth blending.
  • First wet only the area you want colored; blue for example. Then dip your brush in ink you've added to a block or other slick surface.
  • I either press my ink pad onto a clear block or add ink drops to the block or a paper plate.
  • Saturate your wet brush in the ink and paint color onto the previously wet area.
  • Let dry before adding another color that touches it or they'll bleed together.

More techniques coming tomorrow!  Stop back in.

  • Awesome Sale-a-Bration Team card swap samples

We held our monthly Team swap and meeting this weekend.  As usual my gals created fabulous cards to share with each other.

First is a rainbow of carrots card made by Karen.  She used the Thanks a Bunch stamp set.  It's a free choice during our Sale-a-Bration promotion; yours with any $50 purchase of Stampin' Up! products.

Rainbow carrots are one of the fun food trends right now; she did it proud!  She used the Stamparatus to stamp her carrots, repositioning the card stock on her mat each time so the two step stamps lined up perfectly.  Genius!  I plan to share her technique soon.

She used the new Cane Weave 3D embossing folder seen here, new Pastel Adhesive-Backed sequins, the Deckled Rectangle dies and the new Happy Labels Pick a Punch for her greeting.

Ginny made this pretty card with the Beautifully Happy stamp set; also from Sale-a-Bration.

It's a beautiful 2-step stamp set that is also distinktive; which means it gives two tones of ink on one stamping.  My favorite types of stamp hands down!

Her colors are Fresh Freesia, Old Olive and Black. She added that soft layer of Vellum too!

    Measurements are:

    Card base 4 1/4" X 11", White – 3" X 4 1/8", Black 3 1/8" X 4 1/4" and Vellum is 3 5/8" X 4 3/4"

Jane brought this cute card to share and I had to show you.  She used the Adorable Owls stamp set; another Sale-a-Bration choice that's free with a $50 purchase from now through February 28th. *see everything free here

Can you see what is so unique about it?

The Owl tag is loose and can be removed from the card front.  It is caught on the horizontal greeting banner that is only anchored at the outer edges.  I love this idea!  You could add a bookmark in the same way.

Her colors are Calypso Coral with Fresh Freesia.

  • Desert Details WOW card

I spent time playing with the Delicate Desert suite and this is what I came up with:

I LOVE how it turned out!  I really wanted to use the Dry Brushed specialty paper along with the Desert Details bundle seen here.  The dies in it are so cool!

The two large rectangles and dies for the stamped flowers are just a few of the dies included.

My colors include Petal Pink & Soft Succulent. I cut two of the open leaf dies from the center of the Dry Brushed large shape, leaving the outer frame intact. No one but me knows there are empty spaces under the White layer!

You can see the Dry Brushed metallic specialty paper here.  It's simply stunning!

There are two of each sheet in this package of 12" metallic paper for $8.

I added a few of the Gold Faceted Adhesive-Backed sequins on this card too.  They're also part of the Delicate Desert suite seen here.

I hope you enjoyed this project; it came together so easily.

  • Sweet Country Bouquet cards & treat box

Jane shared this 'sweet' card and treat box she made at our Flowerbug's team meeting yesterday.  They were for her monthly Club gathering.

I think they're super cute and had to share them with you.

She featured the Country Floral Lane suite; especially the Country Bouquet Bundle seen here.  Unfortunately the Country Bouquet punch is unavailable right now; it's out of stock until possibly April. The heart and leaves would be easy to fussy cut though.

She used the Scalloped Contour dies were used on the front and back of her box using the Country Gingham DSP seen here; a simple hand made box is between them to add your treats to.  I might have to make one to share with you!

I love the greetings added with banners on the front!  She gave me the following measurements for the box:

Start with 6" X 5 1/2".  Score on the 5 1/2" side at 1 1/2" and 4". Score on the 6" side at 2 1/4" & 3 3/4".  Cut up to the score lines on the 6" side.  Form your box.

For her card she used the Country Floral Lane DSP seen here along with Petal Pink, Sweet Sorbet and a bit of Mint Macaron.  Love the layout!

Mary made this pretty card for our Team swap also featuring the Country Floral Lane DSP.  She also used the Love for You Bundle seen here.

That 'Love' die-cut from the White layer placed on the angle adds a fun playfulness to the card.  Her hearts and leaves are punched directly from the Country Floral Lane DSP with the Country Bouquet punch. She cased the card from Mary Fish.

    Measurements:  DSP 3 1/2" X 3 3/4", Sweet Sorbet is 3 3/4" X 4", Petal Pink 2" X 2 1/2", White is 2 1/2" X 1 1/2"

Thanks for stopping in today; more to come every day of the week; Monday – Friday!
