Understanding Color Theory (the Color Wheel) with video

If choosing color combinations is challenging for you the Color Theory video below may help you out.

You can find a printed color wheel in the new Annual Catalog on page 132.  Some of us lucky Demo's received a real color wheel at OnStage in Houston.  It was a surprise perk for attendees.

Stampin' Up! has heard from many people begging for one since they saw it. Stay tuned; they are producing another that will be available for purchase later this year.  In the meantime please watch the video seen further below to see how you can use this color wheel.

Here's a photo of the printed color wheel in the catalog:

My top favorite and easiest way to combine colors is Monochromatic. This means hues of one color – blues, greens etc.  Monochromatic projects are soothing to the eye and can be seamless.

My second favorite is to use complimentary colors such as pink & green or yellow with purple.

If you're using designer paper Stampin' Up! has done the work for you – just choose from the colors listed on the back of each package.

Honestly, how I usually choose colors is to hold the card stock pieces next to each other. For me that's easy, but I know others struggle so I hope the video below will help you out.

    Today's card is the second one I shared during last week's Live video.  I chose to feature the Labeled with Love bundle.

    There's just something classy about a mostly white card. To me it seems like there's more focus on the main element – in this card a pretty butterfly tag. And the texture is a quiet backdrop.

    Here are some of the products I used:

    Is this your style of card?  Or is it a bit too clean & simple?

    Today's project is from last week's Live video seen here.

    This neat fun fold card features the Lily Pond Lane designer series paper and the Labeled with Love punch bundle seen here.

    The stamp set is available in a bundle with either a punch or a set of dies.  Love that they have these options to please us all.

    My colors include Peach Pie, Pretty in Pink and Pretty Peacock which I got from the Lily Pond Lane DSP seen here.  I still have a few card kits to go with this adorable designer paper. See them here; while supplies last.

    The card layout includes a quarter sheet on the base and a scored/folded 11" X 4 1/4" piece over it.  A few White & DSP layers and that's it!  It's quite simple.  I did fussy cut the butterflies I added to the right panel.

  • Team swaps with the Unbounded Love bundle & more

    Here are a few more of our June Team card swaps.  I shared quite a few last week as well. Our theme was to use a new color along with an old favorite.

    Lori made this card with Summer Splash and Berry Burst with White.

    She added the Unbounded Beauty designer paper, the Deckled Rectangle dies and a Paper Butterfly Accent too.  It's also a fun fold card!

    It's a Dutch Door fun fold.  Making a Dutch Door fold is so simple.  To a full quarter card base you'll add a second layer that opens from the side. Her horizontal layer is 8 1/2" X 2 3/4" scored at 4 1/4".

    I like that you cannot see the inside greeting layer until you open the card. The greetings are from the Unbounded Love bundle.

    Next is a monochromatic card made by Rita. She also used the Unbounded Love bundle.

    Her colors include Peach Pie, Black and White. The DSP is the 2024-26 In Color 6 X 6" pack. She added embossed texture to the background.  I especially like how she added that pretty leaf die-cut frame over her stamped greeting.  A fabulous idea where you don't have to cut the greeting layer to match the die-cut exactly.

    ~~~
    Lastly is a fun celebratory card made by Joan.
    She featured the 'Light the Sky' stamp set seen here online.  I love her colors of Summer Splash with Real Red, Black & White.
    Remember that for every $50 you spend in July you receive a $5 coupon to redeem in August on another order!
    Bonus Days are a Win Win!!
