Free-form waves using the Floating Technique

We made this gorgeous 'wave' card at a Team meeting last month.  I used the Waves of Inspiration bundle and a Blending Brush for the sky.

I had a bunch of curvy foil pieces left over after die-cutting a bunch of these waves from the two blue colors in the Blue Foil paper seen here.  I challenged myself to use them and came up with a free-form wave using the Floating Technique.

I adhered various die-cut foil pieces to a Window Sheet using Multipurpose liquid glue and added them to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.  This take a bit of patience as you can imagine!    

Here are some tips to achieve this:

  • It's best if you start at the bottom and add just a few pieces. Let it set to dry. 
  • Adding a weight over them while they dry helps keep them flat. The foil likes to curl up.
  • Next form the top of the wave.  I used one of the long curved pieces for this.  
  • Add just a few pieces at a time and let them dry.  They slide easily!
  • Fill in the center of the wave a few at a time. Again, add weight over it all to set & dry.  
  • Trim off the sides of the Window sheet at 4" to fit the White layer. I fussy cut the top to match the foil wave.  
  • I adhered it to the textured 'Bark 3D' White 4" X 5 1/4" piece of CS with mini dimensionals.

  • Eden’s Garden card in fresh colors

    Well I thought I'd play with purple, green & white for this pretty card.

    I stamped the images in Old Olive & Gorgeous Grape along one side of the card. Then I textured it with the Timeless Type 3D embossing folder.  Lastly I added a greeting on a Picture This die-cut. 

    Measurements: 

    • card base 5 1/2" X 8 1/2"
    • White 3 3/4" X 5"
    • Old Olive 4" X 5 1/4"

    I love seeing what my Flowerbugs make for our monthly Team swaps.  Swaps are optional and fun for those who choose to join in.

    Today I'm sharing two cards; one birthday and one Christmas.

    First is Tammi's card made with the Biggest Wish stamp set & the Pattern Party designer paper.  If you're wondering where this paper is from it's a Hostess choice.  You can get it as part of your free products with an order over $150.  That's when hostess benefits kick in.

    She added a wrap of the Black glittered ribbon around her 4"X 5 1/4" card front which brings in the Black stamped images to coordinate.  Here DSP is 4" X 3".  

    Next up is Candy's pretty wreath card.  

    She used the Forever Fern stamp set to create a wreath stamping around a masked off circle in the center.  What a great way to use a stamp set that isn't even Christmas!

    I believe her colors are Real Red, Garden Green & Blackberry Bliss.  The greeting is from the Merriest Moments.  The corner accents are from the Detailed Trio punch. I love her itty bitty bow!

    Here are two more cards made by my talented Flowerbugs! Both used the Expressions in Ink suite. 

    Candace made this first one using a nice piece of the beautiful Expressions in Ink specialty DSP.  She stamped her greeting and leaves directly onto the DSP using Evening Evergreen ink.

    Then she stamped the large flower on a separate piece of White CS and die-cut it out using the Artistic Dies.  Lovely!

    Tracey made this one using just the Artistically Inked stamp set.  She stamped all of her images on the White CS and added that to a layer of textured White CS.  She used the Timber 3D embossing folder.

    You can see she added a bit of sponging to the embossed layer to really bring out the texture.
