Free-form waves using the Floating Technique

We made this gorgeous 'wave' card at a Team meeting last month.  I used the Waves of Inspiration bundle and a Blending Brush for the sky.

I had a bunch of curvy foil pieces left over after die-cutting a bunch of these waves from the two blue colors in the Blue Foil paper seen here.  I challenged myself to use them and came up with a free-form wave using the Floating Technique.

I adhered various die-cut foil pieces to a Window Sheet using Multipurpose liquid glue and added them to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.  This take a bit of patience as you can imagine!    

Here are some tips to achieve this:

  • It's best if you start at the bottom and add just a few pieces. Let it set to dry. 
  • Adding a weight over them while they dry helps keep them flat. The foil likes to curl up.
  • Next form the top of the wave.  I used one of the long curved pieces for this.  
  • Add just a few pieces at a time and let them dry.  They slide easily!
  • Fill in the center of the wave a few at a time. Again, add weight over it all to set & dry.  
  • Trim off the sides of the Window sheet at 4" to fit the White layer. I fussy cut the top to match the foil wave.  
  • I adhered it to the textured 'Bark 3D' White 4" X 5 1/4" piece of CS with mini dimensionals.

    I design my kits around the paper so all you need to add are stamped greetings. I chose to use the new Simply Said set this time; which you can add on at a discount. I cut everything for you but the designer paper.  The PDF tutorial includes measurements so you can easily accomplish that.

    Today I'm sharing the second card I created on last week's Live video.  Both feature new in colors and the Spotlight on Nature bundle.

    SPOTLIGHT ON NATURE BUNDLE Save

    This card really shows off the two embossing folders I used.  On the card below I used the Dotted Circles 3D folder seen here. It's an extra large folder (6" X 8 1/2") that has very deep texture.  It's Shy Shamrock with Pretty in Pink. The designer paper is the Unbounded Beauty.

    The card below features the Eyelet 3D folder which is quite pretty & delicate. See it here. This card is Petunia Pop with Shy Shamrock. 

    Do you notice the difference in the greetings?  I fussy cut one to add to the In Color Glimmer paper and the other I simply trimmed the ends at an angle.

  • Spotlight on Nature unique Z-fold card with video & free project sheet

    I shared this unique & easy fun fold card on last week's Live video.

    It doesn't look like a fun fold card does it?  I featured it at my May Card Clubs.  I love the way the detailed die is popped up on Dimensionals which shows off the die-cut pattern. There's a simply trick to stamp over the die-cut after you cut out the die shape; watch the video to learn how. 

    It features three new In Colors and the Spotlight on Nature bundle. The colors include Pretty in Pink, Shy Shamrock & Peach Pie. I colored in the butterfly & flowers with Pretty in Pink & Peach Pie blends.  Want to know how to do this?  Watch the video here or below. I love combining two colors like this!
