Cool technique with the Wink of Stella pen!

There are times I like to color and others that I don't. I came up with this cool technique using the Wink of Stella pen and White Craft ink to highlight my main image.

I pressed a clear block directly onto my White Craft ink pad and used that to pick up the ink with my Wink of Stella pen. You sure don't have to use a clear block but I didn't want to get Wink of Stella in my ink pad. You could use a paper plate or any other non porous surface.

I used Purple Posy, Pool Party and Seaside Spray on the cards below.

Technique tips:

  • Light colored card stock works best here; the White ink can obscure the stamped image on dark card stock.
  • Squeeze out a bit of the Wink of Stella liquid to make a small puddle to mix with the White ink for easier painting.
  • Paint the image once and go back and highlight parts of it if you want more 'lightness'.
  • Black Memento ink works fine to stamp your image
  • This should work nicely on a heat embossed image!
  • You can use the White Craft ink refill instead of an ink pad but a little drop goes a long way!

I also used Versamark to create a background effect on the card base, stamping the main image multiple times. I love how soft a Versamark background is and I don't use it near enough.  This repetitive stamping could be very busy if done in black or a darker color.

Here's the video with 3 different coloring techniques!

  • Amazing WOW projects with Hey Chuck; Part 2

Each month one of my Flowerbug's Team is featured as an Artist of the Month.  For July Annette chose the adorable Hey Chuck bundle seen here.  I know you'll be amazed at her fabulous projects I'll be sharing.

First up today is a stunning framed sampler.

Just look at her incredible scenes!  I think the bit of blue behind each image sets them off incredibly.

    Sampler details:

    • She used Azure Afternoon ink and blending brushes to add a bit of blue behind her die-cut rooster scenes.
    • The designer paper behind it all is the Masterfully Made designer series paper seen here.
    • She colored the images with Blends markers and popped them up on the squares.
    • Her 4 white squares measure 2 5/8", colored squares are 2 3/4" and the black are 2 7/8" squares
    • The black frame is 9" in size; the glass opening is 7 1/2"

Here's the Hey Chuck bundle she used.  The dies are back now and available!

Look at this hilarious rooster!  And the perfect greeting for him…..

She used the Dots & Spots die for her background and that strip of the Masterfully Made DSP is a perfect addition to this card and her color choices. The white on white theme makes the image pop!

The dimension she achieved by popping up the rooster and the greeting with Dimensionals makes such a difference to this card.

    Details:

    • Dots & Spots white layers are 5" X 3 3/4", Pumpkin Pie layer is 5 1/8" X 3 7/8"
    • Stitched circle is from the Stylish Shapes dies
    • DSP strip is 4" X 1"

Next is a fun fold card featuring the Glorious Gingham designer paper.

She got the idea from Karen Titus.  The DSP is 6" square and you score and cut it to fold in on itself.  Here's what it looks like when it's closed up:

I'll be sharing how to make one of these cards very soon!

    More to come tomorrow!

  • Earthen Textures card with video tutorial

I made this card for last week's Live video.  I LOVE the colors and textures!

It features the Earthen Textures stamp set & dies bundle.  Unfortunately the dies are in low inventory so they may be unavailable soon.   But they'll be back I'm sure.  You can see them here.

My colors include Pretty Peacock and Pecan Pie.  The designer paper for the background is the Earthen Elegance seen here.  I also used the Distressed Gold paper on the large pleated fan/leaf.  The die creates folds so you can add a lot of texture and dimension on your projects.

I stamped both die-cut vases in Pretty Peacock ink onto Vanilla card stock.  I then sponged Pecan Pie ink onto them.  I wrapped the tall vase 3 times with the Natural Wavy trim. I've been loving using this unique trim; it was unavailable for over a month but it's back now.

You can watch the video here.  Don't forget to subscribe to either my FB page here to join in the Live's each Tuesday morning.  Or follow me on YouTube here.
