Baby Wipe technique and the easiest Shaker Card ever! Tips for success & Video Tutorial

This card was cased from my good friend Susie Wood; creating comes naturally to her.  She's fast and super talented.  See her cute card here.

I used the Tropical Leaf bundle in the Online Exclusives section of our online store.  I also wanted to feature the baby wipe technique.

The colors include Parakeet Party, Bermuda Bay and a tiny bit of Granny Apple Green.  The designer paper inside the clear envelope is Pretty Prints.  Here's how I created the clear envelope shaker:

My Pretty Prints designer paper layer is 5 1/4" X 4" and our clear envelopes are about 1/2" larger.  For the shaker elements to stay on the front side of the envelope it has to be tight and smaller.  So I added tear & tape to the back edge and folded the extra over tightly. Now, insert your shaker elements on the front pocket and fold down the end flap. Wallah!  You have a shaker card front!

This DSP is from the Pretty Prints; soon to retire from the Annual catalog.  See it here.

It includes some of my favorite colors – Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, Calypso Coral and Evening Evergreen.

The CS layers on the front are added on top of this shaker element so you still get the feel of a real card; not all slippery.  Watch the video here or below to see how it's done.  It's the 2nd project of 3.

You can see this unique Tropical Leaf bundle here: The font of the greetings in this Tropical Leaf stamp set are so unique; love it!

Now to create the baby wipe leaves I made my own ink pad with a folded baby wipe.

Tips for success of the baby wipe technique:

  1. Fold a baby wipe into a thick layer; at least 4 layers thick. Make your 'pad' as large as your largest stamp image.  Place it on a plate.
  2. Drop multiple drops of each color of ink refill onto the baby wipe, leaving room between colors for another color.
  3. I recommend at least 2 colors and up to 4 at the most.
  4. Choosing colors?  Find complimentary colors in similar shades – blues/greens, yellows/oranges, oranges/pinks etc.
  5. Choosing stamps? Solid images work best; outline images will not show off your colors well.
  6. Ink your stamp in the new colored pad by tapping up and down in the same approximate place. Traveling while inking may muddy your colors.
  7. Huff on the image and stamp.
  8. Depending on how much ink you added you can use your new 'ink pad' multiple times. Add more ink drops as needed.

Here's how the inside was stamped:

Products used:

  • Tropical Leaf bundle
  • Pretty Prints DSP
  • Parakeet Party, Bermuda Bay and Granny Apple card stock and ink refills
  • For Everything and Sparkle & Shine sequins (Annual Catalog)
  • Clear envelopes (Annual Catalog)
  • baby wipe
  • Bough Punch a big favorite!
  • Basics 3D embossing folder

My Flowerbug's Team amazes me with their incredible card swaps; each and every month their cards are super fabulous!  I shouldn't be surprised at this point!

Our September Team card swap featured Halloween or Fall cards and I'll be featuring them for the next several days.

Annette made this first card with the Best Witches stamp set seen here.  Look at her amazing coloring!

The colors include Highland Heather, Black & a bit of Granny Apple Green on the frog.  She used Blends markers for her coloring.  Love that face!

The designer is our Black & White Designs from the Holiday catalog.  The circles are from the Layering Circles dies.

It's also a fun fold 'latch' card!  Here's the inside view:

    Measurements:

    • Highland Heather: Card base 6 1/2" X 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4".  Side flap is3 1/2" square
    • Black: 2 3/4" X 3 1/4" & 2" X 5 1/4"
    • DSP: 1 3/4" X 5"
    • White: front is 2 1/2" X 3", inside is 4" X 5 1/4"

In the photo below you can see how the right panel is 'latched' with the layered circle greeting to keep it closed.

Next is a super cute card made by Candace with the Bewitching punch bundle seen here.  Unfortunately the punch is unavailable right now but it will be back!  I just love her playful circles layout!

She used Gorgeous Grape, Pumpkin Pie, Black & Granny Apple Green.  She cut off the front flap with the Border Basics dies and added a strip of Gorgeous Grape with the same die-cut edge.

The way she added the boots to be under the hat with this fold is genius!

    Measurements:

    • Grape card base 5 1/2" X 4 1/4" plus a 3/4" X 5 1/2" strip for the zigzag die-cut border
    • White is 5 1/4" X 7" scored at 4 1/8"
    • Circles are all die-cuts from the Stylish Shapes dies!

Don't you agree that these cards are amazing!?  I'm so proud to share the creativity of my Flowerbug's Team!  More to come tomorrow!

I shared this cute & easy box on Tuesday's FB Live.  It's quite simple to make and fits a bunch of treats too!

I decided to feature this month's Paper Pumpkin kit I just received.  It's called Spooky Treats.  I used the ghost and greeting images from the stamp set plus the greeting element and the bats paper from the kit.  I chose the Black & White designs paper for the designer paper.

The finished box measures 3" X 5" in size.

    Here are the measurements:

    • Box card stock 7” X 9” – Score at 1” on all sides.
    • Place CS with long side at the top, score at 4” & 5”
    • DSP – sides 2 at ¾” X 2 ¾”, front & back 2 at ¾” X 4 ¾”. Top is 2 ¾” X 4 ¾”

For the second box I chose to use Gorgeous Grape for my box instead of Pumpkin Pie.  The designer paper is also the Black & White designs.

This Spooky Treats Paper Pumpkin kit is still available while supplies last!  You can choose between the full kit here for $20.50 or the refill here (without the stamp set & ink) for $11.

You have a few choices when purchasing Paper Pumpkin.  You can subscribe to get one kit each month here.  Or purchase a pre-paid subscription here.  You can choose from a 1, 3, 6 or 12 month pre-paid subscription.

  • Spooky Treats alternative card with Aspen Tree dies

Here's one of the projects I shared on Tuesday's FB Live video this week.  I focused on the Spooky Treats Paper Pumpkin kit.

Good news!  This kit is still available – you can get the full kit here.  Or if you're a subscriber you can get the refill here.

In the video seen here, I share a bunch of alternative projects with both my Paper Pumpkin subscribers AND my Flowerbug's Team.

Here's the stamp set that is included in the kit; it's so cute!

Here's what the Spooky Treats kit makes if you follow the kit directions as directed. It includes 18 nice size treat boxes; perfect to add your candy or Halloween treats in.

I look forward to getting these kits in the mail each month.  I know that October's kit is Christmas cards.  We always get a hint on what it will be. That way you can opt out or even choose to get more than one kit!

You can see how I stamped the inside below.  The card base is Orchid Oasis.

I used three inks and our blending brushes to create the smooth background under the Aspen Tree dies. I share a few tips on getting smooth results in the video.
