Have you ever done the baby swipe technique?  It's so fun; playing with baby wipes and ink refills is a bit addictive!

I made this card for our March Team swap; the theme was to use a technique involving ink refills.

My colors include Daffodil Delight, Polished Pink and Black.

Other products used:

Can you spot the shimmer?  I used the Pearlescent paper from the Annual Catalog.  See it here.

It was the perfect sheen for this technique as the moist ink did not absorb quickly like it might for regular card stock. Glossy paper would also work well.

After I added the color, I let it dry for an hour or so.  Then I textured it with one of the embossing folders in the 3D Basics pack seen here.  These are currently out of stock but they'll be back in May.

Below you can see the difference in my cards; especially the colors. One is soft and subtle and the other more vibrant.  This happens as you work with your baby wipe; the first few swipes are bold and the next few are much softer.

Tips for success:

  • Fold and roll your baby wipe in a tube.  Hold it tightly and add a few drops of ink refills.
  • Add each color separately in a row.  I tend to add enough for about 1/2" of surface.
  • Start swiping off your paper and then onto it.  You can do straight swipes or get creative and add curves or swirls. Let dry.
  • Shimmery, pearlescent or glossy works best. But you can do it on regular card stock too.
  • I suggest you use light to medium colors.

Notice the colors of the butterflies? I colored the Brass Butterflies with a Polished Pink blends marker for the left card.  I wasn't sure I liked it or not so left them uncolored for my swap cards.

Watch the video here or click on the image below to see this technique. It's the last technique I share in the video.

  • Modern Christmas card idea

Today I have a gorgeous Christmas card idea from our October Team swap. Each month my Flowerbug’s swap cards with a chosen theme.
This first card was made by Jacki who chose the Modern Christmas suite.

Her colors include White, Black and Gold foil accents as indicated by the gorgeous Modern Christmas designer paper seen here. If you love it I have a pre-cut card kit or PDF tutorial you can opt in for too. And it’s also my free tutorial of the month for any online order.

The embossing folder is the So Swirly 3D and her greeting is from the Greetings for You Mix & Match ephemera seen here. This pack of greetings has 6 sheets of gold foil printed greetings!

She used many of the dies in the Ornamental Christmas bundle seen here. I love the gold foil on the ornament. This card is truly elegant!

I love the elegance of the Black, White & Gold.

I’ll be sharing many more of our October Christmas themed card swaps by my Team this week and next. Stay tuned!

  • Wow! Look at this incredible Light & Wonder scene

Here’s a gorgeous card I shared on last week’s Live video: Are you following me on YouTube here? Or Facebook here? Don’t miss out on my weekly videos!

My colors include Cloud Cover, Black, Misty Moonlight, Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather, White & Timid Tiger. Inks are Highland Heather, Cloud Cover, Black & Timid Tiger.

It’s made with the Light & Wonder bundle seen here. The dies are amazing at creating scenes! Look at the layered mountains, trees and that water die-cut!
Sponging makes a big difference! I sponged the top of the mountains with purple ink, the water with Cloud Cover ink and the sun with Timid Tiger ink.

Tip: Can you see the ‘water lines’ I created with a Wink of Stella pen? So cool!

This is one of my favorite cards I’ve made in awhile. I hope you like it too!

I got the layout idea for this card from Amanda Mertz on Pinterest but changed it up a bit. I love creating scenes and when I saw this suite it was an absolute must have for me. See it here.

I created a free project sheet for this card. Click on this link to access it.

Below is the video tutorial for this card and another easy card layout using this suite.

  • Lights of Aurora scenic card with project sheet & video tutorial

I shared this pretty card on last week’s Live video:

It features the Lights of Aurora suite seen here. I made sure to cute my designer paper at 3″ wide so I could get 2 pieces from each 6″ piece. We made this pretty card at my September card clubs.

Besides the DSP & colors (Balmy Blue & Pool Party) do you notice another difference? Look at the ribbon; I tried a new technique of rolling the Balmy Blue sheer ribbon on the left card. Something different!

Another time saving tip for this card is that I could die-cut two sets of trees at the same time with the extra long die in the bundle seen here:

These sentiments & die-cut are from the Peace on Earth bundle; the leaves are from the Textured Notes set.

Tip; add balance to your card by placing the main layers off to one side and the greeting on the other.
This suite has been really popular with my customers. It’s something special & unique we’ve never had before. See it here.

Below is the video tutorial where I shared this card and another gorgeous sample. Be sure to follow me on my YouTube channel here.
