Shaving Cream & Watercolor techniques with tips for success

This week I'm sharing the swap cards my Flowerbug's Team made for our March card swap. The theme was to use a technique featuring ink refills.

Each one is fabulous!

This first card was created by Paula who used the shaving cream technique.  It looks a little bit like tie dye!

Tips on the Shaving Cream technique.  It's fun but a bit messy.

  1. Fill a container with about an inch of shaving cream. Your container should be large enough to fit the card stock you're coloring. *tip; cheap shaving cream works just fine!
  2. Smooth out the cream.  Add drops of your ink colors onto the cream. Take a knife and swirl the ink into the cream. Don't do this too much or you'll make 'muddy' colors.
  3. Lay your card stock onto the swirled cream and press lightly. Use gloves if you don't want inky fingers.
  4. Remover your card stock and wipe off the excess cream. Set aside to dry.
  5. You can use regular card stock or glossy if you have it.

She used Orchid Oasis, Parakeet Party & Tahitian Tide inks and regular Basic White card stock.

She even die-cut a few corner elements for the inside of her card. These dies are from the Fabulous Frames dies seen here

Next is a pretty card made by Ginny using the Best Day stamp set seen here.  She cased a card from the Jan-June catalog.  Check out the sample on page 67.  This is a great reminder that there are wonderful ideas in our catalogs!

She stamped the image on watercolor paper and colored it using our Water painters.  I believe her colors include Calypso Coral, Pool Party & Daffodil Delight.

Here are a few helpful tips for successful water-coloring.

  • Wet your paper before you add color. Watercolor paper is THE BEST for smooth blending.
  • First wet only the area you want colored; blue for example. Then dip your brush in ink you've added to a block or other slick surface.
  • I either press my ink pad onto a clear block or add ink drops to the block or a paper plate.
  • Saturate your wet brush in the ink and paint color onto the previously wet area.
  • Let dry before adding another color that touches it or they'll bleed together.

More techniques coming tomorrow!  Stop back in.

  • Textures & Frames; who knew you could create such fun & variety?!

    At first this stamp set baffled me; what would I do with it?  Well leave it up to the creativity of others to spark my own!  I got some ideas online and all of a sudden I couldn't stop!

    I shared all of these cards and tips on making them on this week's Tuesday FB Live.  Look!

    The card above is my favorite.  It truly makes me smile!  That sentiment is from the In Your Words stamp set in the back of the Sale-a-Bration catalog.  It's free with a $300 order through Sept 30th.  See it here.

    You may wonder how I achieved that perfectly shaped smile on these faces.  I searched all of my stamp sets for a circle shape and found one in the cat in the Cute Halloween set.  Watch the video here or seen below to see how I did it.  The eyes are clear rhinestones colored Black with my Blends marker.  The colors are Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, Fresh Freesia and Pacific Point.

    In the video I also share a neat tip on getting a smaller Postage shape from our Rectangular Postage Stamp punch.

    If you love quirky and unique get this while you can.  This fun Textures & Frames stamp set is free with a $50 through the end of September. *stock up on your favorites and earn it free!

    This next card uses the same solid circle image to create a colorful background for the nice, large greeting in the Thinking, Thanks & Peace stamp set.  I also used the Basic Border dies to create the eye catching rick-rack border trim.

    These colors include Fresh Freesia, Bermuda Bay & Granny Apple Green.

    ~~~
    Next I added some vellum dragonflies to a colorful column on this White card using the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and the Dragonflies punch.
    The greeting is also from the wonderful In Your Words stamp set; I fussy cute it and popped it up with Stampin' Dimensionals.
    ~~~

    I love this one too!  It's cased from my Team Member Tracey.  I had to make one in these colors.

    The die-cut swirl is from the Painted Labels dies and again the greeting is from the In Your Words stamp set.

    ~~~
    I was inspired by the card on the lower right (seen by other Demo's) to create one with TALL candles!  I used my Stamparatus for both of these cards!  Watch how in the video below or click here.
    These colors include Granny Apple Green, Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point & Crushed Curry. The greeting is from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set.
    Which is your favorite??
    And lastly is a simple card using the open circle image and a few stars die-cut with the Stitched Stars dies and our Rainbow Glimmer paper.
    The greeting is from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set.  I love how easy you can create a masculine card with this unique stamp set!
    Don't miss out if you want this set! It's unavailable after Sept 30th! You'll also get 10 free hand-made cards from me with a $50 order!  Details are below.
  • CUTE Halloween cards
    Our monthly Team swap was last Saturday and our theme was Halloween or Fall cards.  Here are two of them I'm happy to share with you.
    This first card was made by Lori.  She is featuring the Cute Halloween designer paper and the Picture This dies.
    The pumpkin, ghost & cat are punched with the Halloween punch directly from the Cute Halloween designer paper seen here.  This punch is on back order until October 11th.  But you CAN still order it.
    I really like how she added different patterns & textures behind each window from the Picture This die cut seen here.  And that peak of the black & white dsp behind it all really sets off the fun colors.
    Next is a cute card made by Candy using the Clever Cats stamp set.  See it here.
    That cat peeking from behind the pumpkin is adorable. Her colors are Rich Razzleberry, Black, Mossy Meadow, Pumpkin Pie & White. Other products she used here are:
    • Double Oval punch
    • Stitched with Whimsy dies seen here
    • Parisian Flourish 3D folder
    I can see this stamp set be used all year.  These cats are hilarious and so true to life!
  • Christmas Season is for Fall too! Watch the short video tutorial!
    Here's one of the cards we made at my September card clubs.  It features the Christmas Season bundle.  But as you can see, it's not just for Christmas!
    I love using non-traditional colors for Fall.  I used Cajun Craze, Bermuda Bay, Vanilla and Crushed Curry. We stamped the images and then added texture with the Timber or Timeworn Type 3D embossing folders.
    Here's the Christmas Season bundle. Look at all you get!  Remember this bundle is FREE with the purchase of the Starter kit through September, 2021.  It's such a great deal; if you love Stampin' Up! products I honestly believe it's the best thing you can do for yourself.  Click here to get started saving money and enjoying being a part of the Stampin' Up! family.
    Or purchase this bundle and get a free Sale-a-Bration choice through September.
    The greetings are from the Biggest Wish set.  It's one of my very favorite sets!  It's so fun to layer the greetings!
    You might notice the pretty Dazzling leaf die-cuts here.  That is from the Sunflower dies and the Be Dazzling specialty paper from our Sale-a-Bration catalog.  Sadly it is out of stock now.
    Click on the photo below to watch the short video tutorial on this card technique.  Or click here.
    Think of the many stamps you own that you could create a pretty background with.  Simply add a greeting tag over it.
