How to achieve the Floating Technique? Lots of examples!

Our current Team creative challenge for my Flowerbug's group is to make a card using the Floating Technique.  It's a fun technique that uses a window sheet or transparency.

Here are some of mine I shared on a recent Facebook Live video you can see here.

This first one features Black & White with a 'pop' of color – Magenta Madness in this case. Magenta Madness is retiring next week!

I used the Dandy Wishes dies and the Layering Circles dies here.  I adhered a bunch of strips of the All Together designer paper to a window sheet, leaving space between them.  I cut it out with the largest circle in the set and popped it up on a Gingham textured White layer.

I added die-cuts from the neat Dandy Wishes dies and a heat embossed image from the Garden Wishes stamp set. This set is in a bundle with the Dandy Wishes dies and on sale in March!  See it here.

This next card features Misty Moonlight and the Abstract Beauty DSP.  I cut the feathers from this pretty DSP that has touches of Gold on it using the Iconic dies seen here.

For this card the window sheet is a simple rectangle.  After adding the feathers I trimmed off the excess and added it to the card with mini dimensionals.

Other details:

  • the greeting die-cuts are the Amazing Thanks dies seen here.
  • The textured White layer is done with the Bark 3D embossing folder.
  • That strip of gold & white strips is also from the Abstract Beauty DSP.
  • Colors are Gold, White, Misty Moonlight and Night of Navy

Next is a card done in purples – Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather & Gorgeous Grape.

Details:

  • Layering Circle & Amazing Thanks dies
  • Greeting stamped from Special Moments SAB set
  • Texture is Hive 3D folder seen here
  • Basic Rhinestone jewels were colored purple with Blends markers

This next sample features the Artistic dies along with the SAB Simply Marbelous DSP.

Colors are Basic Gray, White & Black; very monochromatic.  The greeting is from Friendly Hello SAB set, heat embossed.

Tip; to adhere the finely cut die-cut pieces I used our Adhesive Sheets seen here.  They're the best solution for these types of die-cuts.

  • How I made this neat Pop-up Gift Bag Fun Fold card

We made this fantastic Pop-up Gift Bag fun fold card at my January card clubs. It's such a unique and special way to add a gift card or a little something extra inside a card!

I used the Friendly Hello bundle from our 2022 Sale-a-Bration brochure. See it here. It's free with any $100 purchase from my online Stampin' Up! store.

Isn't it extraordinary!?  Everyone loved their finished card and most were surprised at how easy it was. Here's a close-up of the inside.

Below is the template with measurements.  Your best bet is to watch the video below to see how to assemble it and adhere it inside a card.

I did turn this card into a fun fold as well with a belly band but you sure wouldn't have to.  It could be placed in the fold of any card you make!

The Friendly Hello bundle includes both a full photopolymer stamp set and a package of beautiful 12 X 12" pack of designer paper!

The colors include Fresh Freesia, Granny Apply Green Pool Party, Shaded Spruce, Black & Petal Pink.  I chose to focus on the Fresh Freesia & Granny Apple Green for this card.

Here are the measurements for the card:

    • Card base 4 1/4" X 11" scored at 2" & 7 1/2"
      White 4" X 4 3/4" & 2 3/4" X 4" plus scrap for Hippo & Friends die-cut
Pale Papaya scrap for Hippo & Friends die-cut
      Granny Apple Green 3/4" X 10" scored at 3 1/2" & 7 7/8"
      Friendly Hello DSP for bag – 4 X 9 1/2" scored on the 4" side at 1/2" & 3", and on the long side at 1/2", 4 1/2", 5", 5 1/2" & 9" & DSP for front 3 1/4" X 4" & 1 3/4" X 4"
    • the leaves & buds are punched with the Bough punch seen here

You can see what the card looks like closed in the picture above; on the left.

  • Who knew?!

If someone had told me I'd be doing 8 videos a month 10 years ago I would have scoffed!

One of my best friends encouraged me to do videos years ago and I told here I would never, ever do videos.  She loved to remind me about that! *Sadly she passed away a few months ago.

I've been watching my YouTube subscribers grow and grow and cannot believe that I now have over 15,000 people following me!  Incredible!

I get so many lovely comments from my followers; it truly means a lot that you are all enjoying and getting inspired by them.

Thank you, THANK YOU!!  You are why I LOVE what I do!

  • Turtle & Friends Fun Fold swaps

Today I have a few special fun fold cards made with the Turtle & Friends bundle seen here.  They were for a Flowerbug's Team swap we held last month with an 'Animal Fun Fold' theme.

The first card was made by Paula. Her cute card is called a Double Dutch Door fold.

I love the rounded corners on her front layer and the sweet background made with images from the Happy Hedgehogs stamp set.  She sponged the sky & grass too.

    Measurements:

    • Evening Evergreen card base 4 1/4" X 8 1/2" tall scored at 5 1/2", and the lower doors piece is 8 1/2" X 3" wide scored at 2 1/8" & 6 3/8"
    • White upper stamped layer is 4" X 2 3/4"
    • Lower DSP (Pattern Party host) layer is 1 3/4" X 2 3/4
    • Granny Apple Green inside is 4" X 5 1/4"

To put this card together you add the scored horizontal piece to the vertical card base and add the inside layer over it.

Next is a fun fancy fold card made by Marla.  I'd forgotten about this unique card fold!  It looks like a normal card at first glance.

But when you lift the front it reveals this!

She used the Expressions in Ink specialty DSP in the annual catalog for her card front.  She also used the Hammered Metal 3D embossing folder for the Garden Green strip.

    Measurements:

    • Garden Green 2 pieces at 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" plus a 1 1/2" X 4" piece for the embossed strip
    • Whisper White inside is 3 3/4" X 11" scored at 1" & 6"
    • Expressions in Ink DSP 4" X 5 1/4"

It's so fun to see what my Flowerbug's Team members create; we each have our own style and I love that!
