Free-form waves using the Floating Technique

We made this gorgeous 'wave' card at a Team meeting last month.  I used the Waves of Inspiration bundle and a Blending Brush for the sky.

The colors are Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point and White.  See those gorgeous gems?  They're called Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels and there are 168 in a package for just $6.50!  See them here.

I had a bunch of curvy foil pieces left over after die-cutting a bunch of these waves from the two blue colors in the Blue Foil paper seen here.  I challenged myself to use them and came up with a free-form wave using the Floating Technique.

I adhered various die-cut foil pieces to a Window Sheet using Multipurpose liquid glue and added them to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.  This take a bit of patience as you can imagine!

Here are some tips to achieve this:

  • It's best if you start at the bottom and add just a few pieces. Let it set to dry.
  • Adding a weight over them while they dry helps keep them flat. The foil likes to curl up.
  • Next form the top of the wave.  I used one of the long curved pieces for this.
  • Add just a few pieces at a time and let them dry.  They slide easily!
  • Fill in the center of the wave a few at a time. Again, add weight over it all to set & dry.
  • Trim off the sides of the Window sheet at 4" to fit the White layer. I fussy cut the top to match the foil wave.
  • I adhered it to the textured 'Bark 3D' White 4" X 5 1/4" piece of CS with mini dimensionals.

This card is part of my Waves of Inspiration tutorial and video with 11 projects!  This is available to anyone who purchases the Waves of the Ocean Collection from me or purchases my Waves of Inspiration kit to go.

  • More Christmas card ideas from the Holiday Catalog by my Team

    This is the third batch of Christmas card swaps I've shared – all made by my talented Flowerug's Team.

    First up today is an adorable card made by Candy.  She used the Snowy Wonder bundle seen here in the Holiday catalog.

    I adore her color combination of Pool Party with Real Red & White.  It's one of my favorites for the holidays. She stamped her snowflake background.  The snow globe is stamped with the Falling Snow background stamp.

    She added tons of layers and textures here!  From the Forever Plaid 3D embossing folder to her die-cuts, greetings and snowflake embellishments.  So much detail!!

    Here's the inside view. This greeting is from the Peaceful Season stamp set.

    Next is a sweet & simple card made by Karen.

    Her greeting is from the Peaceful Season bundle. She chose to feature the nostalgic Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper.

    This pretty paper is one of the frequent 'give back's' that Stampin' Up! does each year.  They are donating $3 to children's literacy programs around the world for each pack they sell.

    ~~~
    Mary also chose to use this same DSP on her card.  Another simple but neat way to make your designer paper the star of the card. Her colors are Pecan Pie, Cherry Cobbler & Vanilla.
    There are still more swaps left to share; stay tuned!
  • 3 great fun fold ideas from my Team swaps
    You're going to love these fancy fold cards made by my Flowerbug's Team for this month's swap.  I shared a few others yesterday and here are three more:
    Lori made this cute 'gift box' card.
    She used the Take a Bow DSP seen here and the Peaceful Christmas dies too.  She wrote the 'Merry' greeting by hand. It's like a pocket card except the top is a fold that pulls up the inside like this:
    Measurements:
    • DSP 2 pieces of each at 3 7/8" X 4 1/2" (striped), Red is 1 1/8" X 4 1/2"
    • Real Red 4 1/4" X 2" score in half at 1" (poke two holes for threading ribbon), 3" X 4 1/4" inside pocket
    • White 2 3/4" X 4" inside pocket layer
    • scraps for die-cuts
    Next is a sweet card made by Joan who did make a pocket card!
    She used the Christmas Friends stamp set (seen here) along with the Deckled Circle dies.  Isn't her coloring fabulous?  She has a knack for coloring with the Blends markers.
    Next is an adorable card made by Sharon who chose the Sweetest Star bundle and also used the Take a Bow DSP.
    She scored her colored Santa from center to each point and added it to the inside of her punched star window with two stacked dimensionals in the center.  Love this idea!  See the Sweetest Star bundle here.
  • Get great ideas from our Team Christmas card swaps made with Online Exclusives
    Today I'm sharing a few cards made by my Team for our October card swap. The theme was winter or Christmas.  And both of these cards feature Online Exclusive products!  If you haven't shopped these items yet you're missing a huge selection of products!  Click here to see them all.
    Paula's card is made with the Iconic Imagery bundle.  I cannot believe the amount of die-cutting she did on her cards; she made 14 of these!
    Isn't it incredible?!  Besides all of the small stamps she die-cut she also cut out nine 1" stitched squares per card!  Wowsers!
    Here's the adorable bundle below. Click here to see it in my store.  I love the many images and the greeting labels a lot.
    Her gingham designer paper is also on Online Exclusive. I honestly cannot believe we haven't fun out of stock on this one.  It's called Season of Green & Gold specialty designer paper. See it here.
    See that cute greeting & die-cut?  They're both in the Iconic Imagery bundle.
    Next is a beautiful sled card made by Deloris. Isn't this stunning? Did you notice she used the same gingham designer paper that Paula did above?  It's the Green & Gold Specialty DSP.
    She featured the Sophisticated Sled bundle seen here.  You can find it in our Online Exclusives.  It's a gorgeous set of stamps & dies.  I especially love the sled made from wood DSP and gold foil. And those skates and laces are incredible!!
