Baby Wipe technique and the easiest Shaker Card ever! Tips for success & Video Tutorial

This card was cased from my good friend Susie Wood; creating comes naturally to her.  She's fast and super talented.  See her cute card here.

I used the Tropical Leaf bundle in the Online Exclusives section of our online store.  I also wanted to feature the baby wipe technique.

The colors include Parakeet Party, Bermuda Bay and a tiny bit of Granny Apple Green.  The designer paper inside the clear envelope is Pretty Prints.  Here's how I created the clear envelope shaker:

My Pretty Prints designer paper layer is 5 1/4" X 4" and our clear envelopes are about 1/2" larger.  For the shaker elements to stay on the front side of the envelope it has to be tight and smaller.  So I added tear & tape to the back edge and folded the extra over tightly. Now, insert your shaker elements on the front pocket and fold down the end flap. Wallah!  You have a shaker card front!

This DSP is from the Pretty Prints; soon to retire from the Annual catalog.  See it here.

It includes some of my favorite colors – Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, Calypso Coral and Evening Evergreen.

The CS layers on the front are added on top of this shaker element so you still get the feel of a real card; not all slippery.  Watch the video here or below to see how it's done.  It's the 2nd project of 3.

You can see this unique Tropical Leaf bundle here: The font of the greetings in this Tropical Leaf stamp set are so unique; love it!

Now to create the baby wipe leaves I made my own ink pad with a folded baby wipe.

Tips for success of the baby wipe technique:

  1. Fold a baby wipe into a thick layer; at least 4 layers thick. Make your 'pad' as large as your largest stamp image.  Place it on a plate.
  2. Drop multiple drops of each color of ink refill onto the baby wipe, leaving room between colors for another color.
  3. I recommend at least 2 colors and up to 4 at the most.
  4. Choosing colors?  Find complimentary colors in similar shades – blues/greens, yellows/oranges, oranges/pinks etc.
  5. Choosing stamps? Solid images work best; outline images will not show off your colors well.
  6. Ink your stamp in the new colored pad by tapping up and down in the same approximate place. Traveling while inking may muddy your colors.
  7. Huff on the image and stamp.
  8. Depending on how much ink you added you can use your new 'ink pad' multiple times. Add more ink drops as needed.

Here's how the inside was stamped:

Products used:

  • Tropical Leaf bundle
  • Pretty Prints DSP
  • Parakeet Party, Bermuda Bay and Granny Apple card stock and ink refills
  • For Everything and Sparkle & Shine sequins (Annual Catalog)
  • Clear envelopes (Annual Catalog)
  • baby wipe
  • Bough Punch a big favorite!
  • Basics 3D embossing folder

In the video below I demonstrate this fun baby wipe technique; Click here or on the photo below to watch the video.

I featured the Heartfelt Hexagon bundle on a recent Live video.  Here's one of them:

It's a fun fold card that also has a gift card holder inside. You can see the Heartfelt Hexagon bundle here in our online store.  It's a cute punch bundle with a nice variety of greetings & more.

    Products used:

    • Merry, Bold & Bright designer paper
    • Merry Melody embossing folder
    • Deckled Rectangle dies

Below is a photo of the inside. It might be hard to see the gift card pocket on the inside left.  Scroll down to the other photo of the inside.  Isn't this greeting wonderful?  It's my favorite one in the set:

I made a second version on my video; but reversed the colors. I used Pool Party & Real Red.  Which do you prefer?  Watch the video here.

You can see how the gift card is slipped into the inside left pocket, formed when you fold back the card stock on the left edge.

Measurements are included in the free project sheet seen above.

Below is the video on this card and two others. I'll share the project sheets for the other cards soon.

  • Unique Christmas card swaps; they’re not your average cards!

Today I'm sharing the last of our October Flowerbug's Team Christmas card swaps.  These two cards are not your average Christmas cards!

First is a pretty card made by Marla.  She put together a unique color combination of Pretty Peacock with Moody Mauve and it works!

She chose two stamp sets for her card; Ringed with Nature and Vertical Blooms. Both are from the 2023-24 Annual Catalog.  The designer paper is the Earthen Elegance, also from the Annual catalog.

    Measurements:

    • Moody Mauve card base 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" score at 2 1/8" and 4 1/4"
    • Moody Mauve inside 6 1/2" X 3 1/4" score at 3 1/4" and 5 3/8"
    • DSP layers 2 pieces at 1 7/8" X 5 1/4", and inside back is 4" x 5 1/4"
    • White layers 3" square, 1 7/8" X 3" and 7/8" X 3"

Sharon made this super cute reindeer card featuring the Sending Cheer dies seen here.

Can you tell that the reindeer are upside down gingerbread men?  Rudolf is a complete die-cut but the Mrs is half.  She added so much detail on them too!

    • The 'hello' die cut is from the Rustic Crate dies
    • The antlers are from Autumn Leaves dies.
    • Ears are from the monkey punch.

She used the Joy of Christmas designer paper on the front, cutting it in half with the Border Basics dies.  A great idea!

The greetings are from the Horse & Sleigh stamp set (online exclusive).

Below you can see all of the Flowerbug's October swap cards.  Details on each if you go back each day this week.

  • WOW fun fold swap cards with the Beary Cute bundle!

Look at these three fabulous swaps that all feature the Beary Cute bundle.  All so different which shows how versatile this bundle can be.

First is an amazing fun fold card made by Candace.

She stamped her neat background using stamps from Artistically Inked. I know it doesn't look like a fun fold; but look what you see once you open it up!

So fun!  And not that difficult either. I created a similar card on this week's Live video. I'll share it and a free project sheet next week.

    Measurements:

    • Card base 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" score at 3", 4 1/4", 5 1/2"
    • front white 2 3/4" X 5 1/4", inside white 2 3/4" X 5 1/4"
    • Pretty Peacock front 2 7/8" X 5 3/8"
    • White inside greeting layers 2 3/4" X 1 1/2"
    • Smoky Slate greeting layers 2 7/8" X 1 3/4"

She used Pretty Peacock, Basic Gray and Lost Lagoon for her inks.  All stamps are from the Beary Cute stamp set.

Next is a fun & bright card made by Tracey:

She chose to feature the Merry, Bold & Bright designer paper here, focusing on the blues and green patterns.  She broke up the busy tree paper with a striped piece under the greeting and bow. Neat!

Here's the inside view.  The greetings are from the Christmas Classics set.

Next up is a neat book-binding card made by Candy.

She used the Beary Christmas designer paper and stamps from the Beary Cute bundle.

    Products used:

    • Beary Cute bundle
    • Night of Navy, White, Crumb Cake and Balmy Blue card stock
    • Inks – Balmy Blue, Night of Navy, Misty Moonlight (scarf) and Mossy Meadow
    • Deckled circles dies, Navy & Gold glittered ribbon, Snowflake Sky 3D embossing folder.

    Measurements:

    • Night of Navy card base 11" X 4 1/4" score at 4 1/4" & 5 1/2"
    • Balmy blue and White inside 4" square
    • DSP strip 1 1/8" X 4"

Unfortunately the Bear punch is unavailable right now; it will be back the first week in November though. See this bundle here.
